Holmewood Hall Wedding - A wedding photographer's review

The Holmewood Hall wedding venue near Peterborough, Cambridgeshire is one of my all-time favourites.

I know how hard it is for a bride and groom to choose a wedding venue, so I thought I’d explain what makes Holmewood Hall so great while also honouring this great venue (which also happens to be very near my home!)

Most venues have something that lets them down photographically but Holmewood Hall scores highly in every department.

The venue is beautiful inside and outside, rain or shine, in every room and in every situation throughout the day.

Let me take you through the typical stages of a wedding and the benefits of choosing Holmewood Hall for each of those stages…

Celebrity wedding at Holmewood Hall

The hymns at most weddings are muttered nervously under the guest’s breath… but at Joel and Emily’s wedding they were belted out with enthusiasm and pitch perfect talent. Hardly surprising seeing as Joel is the drummer for celebrity singer-songwriter Olivia Dean who was in attendance along with the crystal tones of Liselotte Ostblom and the milky smooth Jazz vocals of James Hudson.

Peterborough Hero - Miquilina Benguela (Lina)

I'm delighted to shine a spotlight on another one of Peterborough's heroes.

‘Peterborough Heroes’ is a project where I do a free family photoshoot for someone who goes above and beyond in helping the community. If you'd like to nominate someone then let me know and I'll add them to the list.

The wonderful Lina (in the beige top) was recommended to me by one of my clients, Jean (in the black top). The lady in the grey top is Isabel, Lina's sister who was visiting from Portugal. Lina has no family in the UK.

The Bruisyard Country Estate - wedding photos of Luke and Shelley

Luke and Shelley’s wedding at Bruisyard Country Estate was a doozy (that’s a good thing btw!!)!

Luke is a project manager and it was clear to see how much work had been put into their stunning day. But the attention to detail didn’t detract from the fun and emotion of the day. I hope it’s clear from the photos that the day was also full of life, love and laughter, all nestled in a gorgeous venue that I hope to come back to soon.

The Old Bridge Hotel Huntingdon - wedding photos of Oliver and Zoe

Ollie and Zoe’s wedding at The Old Bridge Hotel in Huntingdon was super chilled as they were keen to focus their attention on their guests by stripping away some of the usual wedding traditions such as speeches, first dance and cake cut etc.

This meant time pressures were removed and everyone could focus on catching up, eating, drinking, laughing and crying (the good kind!).

The William Cecil wedding photos of Jack and Beth

When there’s dancing on the roof of The William Cecil then you know it’s a fun wedding!

I was delighted to book Jack and Beth’s wedding because I knew Beth’s mum through helping out at a charity ball to help The Phoenix School.

I knew it would be a fun wedding because when I asked them to describe their wedding in 3 words they said it would be fun, memorable and family-oriented.

Couple that with the beautiful William Cecil and you have the perfect combo of a fun couple and a great venue.

Tips to prepare for your family photoshoot

Here are some of my best tips to prepare for your family photoshoot to ensure it goes smoothly.

In 15 years I’ve never had to re-do a family photoshoot because I couldn’t get any photographs. I once had to re-do a newborn shoot because it was a really hot day and the baby couldn’t settle so we did it the following week at no extra charge. Part of the reason for this 100% success rate with family photography is down to these tips…
