Holmewood Hall Wedding - A wedding photographer's review
The Holmewood Hall wedding venue near Peterborough, Cambridgeshire is one of my all-time favourites.
I know how hard it is for a bride and groom to choose a wedding venue, so I thought I’d explain what makes Holmewood Hall so great while also honouring this great venue (which also happens to be very near my home!)
Most venues have something that lets them down photographically but Holmewood Hall scores highly in every department.
The venue is beautiful inside and outside, rain or shine, in every room and in every situation throughout the day.
Let me take you through the typical stages of a wedding and the benefits of choosing Holmewood Hall for each of those stages…
Molecey Mill wedding - Michael and Shannon
‘Blessed’ is the word to describe Michael and Shannon’s wedding at Molecey Mill in Market Deeping, near Peterborough.
Of course they’re blessed to have found each other...
...They were blessed to have grabbed a booking at this stunning venue because they only do a very limited number of weddings each year...
LGBTQ wedding Peterborough - Matt and Peter
Matt and Peter are the life of the party and when it’s their own wedding you know its going to be amazing!
I also knew Matt and Peter’s wedding was going to be brilliant when our Zoom calls never followed the usual pattern because we kept going off on tangents and having a laugh.
Willow Marsh Farm wedding - Dale and Khairun
I photographed Dale, Khairun and their daughter Willow 4 years ago when Willow was a shy toddler....
...Fast forward to 2025 and Willow is now stealing the microphone from her dad during the speeches so she can announce she’s selling the sweets on the candy cart for a pound each.
The Barnsdale wedding venue - James and Ellie
James and Ellie’s wedding at The Barnsdale wedding venue in Rutland. Well that’s it, I can retire now… a dog doing a poo at a wedding!
Orton Hall weddings - A Photographers perspective
Orton Hall wedding venue in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire is great for wedding photos and this blog post explains why.
It’s hard choosing a wedding venue, so I thought having a photographer’s perspective would be helpful. Especially as I’m one of their recommended photographers.
Crown Hall Farm - Danni and Amy's rustic wedding photos
As one of Crown Hall Farm’s recommended suppliers it’s always a pleasure photographing at this beautiful, rustic wedding venue.
Celebrity wedding at Holmewood Hall
The hymns at most weddings are muttered nervously under the guest’s breath… but at Joel and Emily’s wedding they were belted out with enthusiasm and pitch perfect talent. Hardly surprising seeing as Joel is the drummer for celebrity singer-songwriter Olivia Dean who was in attendance along with the crystal tones of Liselotte Ostblom and the milky smooth Jazz vocals of James Hudson.
Family food fight and water fight photoshoot
The idea of a family food fight and water fight was the winning idea when I did a competition asking for the best family photoshoot theme.
The winning family got the photoshoot free of charge as long as they were prepared to go through with their idea. And boy did Libby and her extended family throw themselves into it with enthusiasm!
The Talbot Hotel Oundle weddings - a Photographer’s review
I’ve enjoyed photographing weddings quite a few times at The Talbot Hotel in Oundle so I thought it would be helpful to give you a few thoughts and tips about the venue from a photographer’s perspective.
Peterborough Hero - Miquilina Benguela (Lina)
I'm delighted to shine a spotlight on another one of Peterborough's heroes.
‘Peterborough Heroes’ is a project where I do a free family photoshoot for someone who goes above and beyond in helping the community. If you'd like to nominate someone then let me know and I'll add them to the list.
The wonderful Lina (in the beige top) was recommended to me by one of my clients, Jean (in the black top). The lady in the grey top is Isabel, Lina's sister who was visiting from Portugal. Lina has no family in the UK.
The Bruisyard Country Estate - wedding photos of Luke and Shelley
Luke and Shelley’s wedding at Bruisyard Country Estate was a doozy (that’s a good thing btw!!)!
Luke is a project manager and it was clear to see how much work had been put into their stunning day. But the attention to detail didn’t detract from the fun and emotion of the day. I hope it’s clear from the photos that the day was also full of life, love and laughter, all nestled in a gorgeous venue that I hope to come back to soon.
The Old Bridge Hotel Huntingdon - wedding photos of Oliver and Zoe
Ollie and Zoe’s wedding at The Old Bridge Hotel in Huntingdon was super chilled as they were keen to focus their attention on their guests by stripping away some of the usual wedding traditions such as speeches, first dance and cake cut etc.
This meant time pressures were removed and everyone could focus on catching up, eating, drinking, laughing and crying (the good kind!).
Do wedding photographers have a money-back guarantee? Very rarely, but I do!
The short answer is well over 90% of wedding photographers don’t offer a money-back guarantee, but I do!
There are several reasons the vast majority of wedding photographers don’t offer a money-back guarantee, so let’s look at each one in turn.
The William Cecil wedding photos of Jack and Beth
When there’s dancing on the roof of The William Cecil then you know it’s a fun wedding!
I was delighted to book Jack and Beth’s wedding because I knew Beth’s mum through helping out at a charity ball to help The Phoenix School.
I knew it would be a fun wedding because when I asked them to describe their wedding in 3 words they said it would be fun, memorable and family-oriented.
Couple that with the beautiful William Cecil and you have the perfect combo of a fun couple and a great venue.

Four things a wedding photographer might ask during a consultation
This is a guest post written by The Wedding Wire (although the photos are mine)…
The photographer plays a crucial role in any wedding, documenting the special, unique moments that take place throughout the day and night. The work they do on this all-important day will be cherished for the rest of your life, so you’ll want to make sure everyone’s on the same page when it comes to your wants and needs. In this post, we highlight four questions you should prepare for before your consultation with a wedding photographer.
Irnham Hall wedding photos - Darren and Leanne
Irnham hall near Grantham in Lincolnshire is the perfect venue for wedding photos for so many reasons…
…The majestic 650 year old Irnham Hall that makes the perfect backdrop
…A lake, meadows, flowerbeds and grand old trees
…A rope swing which is far too tempting not to play on!
…Fountains encircled by fairy lights
…A grand reception hall with beautiful decorations
Mayday Retreats - a rustic wedding venue in Lincolnshire
Rustic weddings rule!! I loved Kay and Nicole’s quirky and rustic wedding at Mayday Retreats in Lincolnshire.
There were so many highlights it’s hard to know where to start.
Maybe these snippets will give you a flavour of the fabulous kaleidoscope of love, laughter and lunacy we had at Kay and Nicole's wedding…
Tips to prepare for your family photoshoot
Here are some of my best tips to prepare for your family photoshoot to ensure it goes smoothly.
In 15 years I’ve never had to re-do a family photoshoot because I couldn’t get any photographs. I once had to re-do a newborn shoot because it was a really hot day and the baby couldn’t settle so we did it the following week at no extra charge. Part of the reason for this 100% success rate with family photography is down to these tips…
