“Take care of your memories because you cannot relive them”

- Bob Dylan

Yey - You’re engaged - congratulations!

This is such a fleeting, joyful time and an engagement photoshoot is the perfect way to freeze one of the most special chapters of your life.

Ultimately, all we have are memories. Today is tomorrow’s memory.

In 10 years time your life will be very different. Having photographs that remind you how you both looked, loved and laughed at this time in your lives is priceless.

Imagine everything you love about your partner encapsulated in a series of photos.

Engagement photos are a gift for your future self.

I’ve talked about how precious engagement photos are, but its also a practical exercise.

An engagement session is the perfect test drive for you and your potential wedding photographer.

Ideally its a great idea to do an engagement photoshoot before you hire the wedding photographer. That way you can see if they make you feel comfortable in front of the camera and if your personalities fit. The last thing you want is a photographer who annoys you, even if they’re talented.

Test drive your wedding photographer

Very few people feel comfortable in front of the camera. Having an engagement photoshoot helps in several ways:

  • You’ll build trust with the photographer

  • You’ll see how the photographer works so there’s no ‘fear of the unknown’ on your wedding day

  • You’ll build your confidence because you’ll see how great you are in photos taken by a professional

  • You’ll discover the style of photos and types of ‘poses’ that work best for you and the ones that don’t

  • You’ll realise that when you’re with the right photographer its actually a fun experience and not remotely stiff or awkward

Save time on your

wedding day

Anything that saves time on a wedding day is a blessing. If you’ve had an engagement photoshoot then you already have the confidence in yourself and the photographer so you trust the process.

You already have "muscle memory" from the engagement photoshoot and the poses and prompts don’t need to be explained in as much detail again. This means your wedding photos will be a breeze and you’ll be back to your guests in no time.

Engagement photos are all about your everyday magic and everything you love about each other. You can wear your favourite clothes and even incorporate parts of your life that you love, such as your pets, car, motorbike or hobbies.

Choose a meaningful location

I know lots of beautiful locations, but you’re also welcome to choose somewhere that’s meaningful to you.

That way the location becomes like an extra character and an extra memory in the photos.

It could be where you proposed, or the location of your first date, or where you love to walk your dog.

How to use your engagement photos

You’ll walk away with a gorgeous gallery of professional digital images that have lots of practical and meaningful uses.

  • Make your house a home with wall art that serves as a permanent reminder of everything you love about each other.

  • Wedding stationery: High-quality photos are perfect for your Save-the-Date cards, invitations, or thank-you notes.

  • Wedding decor: Many couples use their engagement photos to decorate their wedding. They can be used for the guest book / signing  frame, centrepieces, slideshow presentation, photo bunting and more.

  • Your wedding website: Make it look polished and personal with professional photos.
