I call this photograph ‘spirit of womanhood’ because it shows both her strength and sensitivity. It looks like she’s been holding her new baby with one hand for miles, while guiding her little boy too. Her hair blowing in the wind shows the struggle and the excitement we all have in our lives, but you can tell the two children are in safe hands.

As long as your baby is wrapped up warm outdoor Autumn baby photos are beautiful. Although I do a lot of studio based baby photography I also know some beautiful locations for outdoor baby photos around Peterborough. Every season has its advantages. Winter and Autumn has the best light because the sun is low all day and I know places where Autumn leaves lie thick on the ground until spring. Spring itself has bluebells and summer has wildflower meadows. So get in touch and I’ll reveal my secret locations for unique baby photos near Peterborough.

Between mid-April and mid-May it’s bluebell baby photography season. Bluebell photography sessions are best when your baby is old enough to sit up without toddling over (usually around 6 months old).

I know this is a hectic time for you, so don’t worry, I’d like to think I’m one of the most chilled newborn photographers in Peterborough. Nothing is too much trouble. There are no time limits so if your baby is a bit grizzly or hungry we can wait it out, no problem. I’m also happy to do sessions within your own home too.

Choosing the right clothing is a huge part of baby photography. This well dressed baby has clothes that enhance the image, rather than detract from it. For example, the colours aren’t too bright and there are no distracting patterns. Also, the colour of the clothing complements the green leaves in the background. Imagine this baby was dressed in a red and black coat… the photograph wouldn’t look anywhere near as lovely. Tonal, and colour harmony are really important in portrait photography.

You’re welcome to have your baby photography session with the rest of your family. If there are more than 3 people I tend to do the session at your home or outside where you’ll feel more comfortable.

I specialise in natural family photoshoots with natural expressions. When I ask my clients what sort of photography they like the word ‘natural’ is easily the most common. Don’t worry, I won’t just leave you to figure out how to act naturally! I have plenty of tricks up my sleeve to help you interact naturally for your family photos.

Having your baby photos created in your home makes them more natural and makes the memories even stronger because they’re taken in the most meaningful place in the world - your home! You’ll also feel more relaxed and there’s plenty of space for the whole family to be involved.

If you’re considering having some newborn photography created near Peterborough then I recommend having your session within 10 days of your baby’s birth. That’s when they’re at their tiniest and easiest to position. After that they become very wiggly and it’s almost better to wait until the 3 month stage when they’re smiling and lifting their heads up when you put them on their front.

Your baby will only look like this for around 2 weeks, so book your baby photoshoot before you’ve given birth. Admittedly babies don’t generally arriving exactly when they’re due… however, if I have you pencilled in then I’ll do whatever it takes to reschedule if your baby is early or late.

I love creating family photos in the Autumn leaves because the sun is low and golden all day and the colours enrich the photos. I know 2 amazing places near Peterborough, Cambridgeshire where it looks like Autumn right up until spring.

I love this pose because it shows the baby’s smiling face as her mother nuzzles her soft cheeks with her nose. It’s a great pose for showing the connection between a mother and child.

Although I love natural baby photographs it’s nice to do some artistic and creative baby photography, too. Many of my sessions have a mix, but the most important thing is the comfort and safety of your baby. If a baby isn’t happy I will never force a photograph. As you can see, this baby is as relaxed as a panther up a tree.

I love dogs, so don’t forget your hairy baby when having your bald baby photographed!

In my baby photography studio I have lots of blankets and baskets and props etc. but often it’s these natural moments that are the most special.

I don’t forget the little details, like your baby’s tiny little hands.

I know a wood with so many beech trees (the best trees for Autumn leaves) that I can do Autumn leaves baby photography right through from mid-October until spring. This is because there are so many leaves they lie thick on the floor for months, as you can see from this photograph.

This is a typical pose for a 3 month old baby because they’re finally strong enough to lift their head. This is the age when you start to get those heart-melting natural smiles too (not just wind!).
