Cornwall - The Lost Gardens of Heligan
![]() The Lost Gardens of Heligan are the restored gardens of an ancient estate that dates back over 400 years.
Not only are the estate gardens home to the expected mix of exotic plants and topiary, there are also plenty of opportunities to see some of the stars of British wildlife too. A nice touch is that they have cameras mounted around the gardens so you can watch badgers inside their sett, barn owls nesting, birds visting feeders as well as the roost of pipestrelle bats. WHERE IS IT? Go to St Austell, then take the B3273 towards Mevagissey and follow the brown tourist signs to “The Lost Gardens of Heligan”. WHAT'S THERE? Badgers Foxes Wood mice Shrews Stoats pipistrelle and greater horseshoe bats BIRDS: Woodpeckers Kingfishers Barn owls Green finches Willow tit Nuthatch Goldfinch Fieldfares Redwings Yellowhammers Linnets Grass snakes, lizards and stick insects are other attractions to take note of. |
