To get to the Simonside Forest Car Park travel south of Rothbury on B6342 for 3 miles. The Simonside Hills are excellent for bird watchers: - Hen harrier - Short eared owls - Ospreys in the summer - Peregrine falcon - Black and red grouse - Merlins - Curlews - Ring ouzels MAMMALS - Red Squirrel - Otters can be found along the length of the River Coquet - Badgers - Foxes - Roe deer - Fallow deer - Hedgehogs OTHER POINTS OF INTEREST - Adders are common - Emperor Moth - The rare Mountain Bumblebee. |
