Kent - Stodmarsh Nature reserve (Photo not for sale)
![]() This is an area of marshland 5 miles east of Canterbury.
It's an important site both for migrating birds as well as being the UK stronghold of one of the rarest of the raptors, the Marsh Harrier. WHERE IS IT? One entrance is at Grove Ferry, of the A28 between Canterbury and Margate. The other is at Stodmarsh village, reached by some twisty country lanes from Fordwich, or some similar twisty lanes from Grove Ferry. WHAT'S THERE? The Marsh Harrier is a real highlight but there's lots more besides. During migratory periods, huge flocks of Geese and Swans can be seen along with flocks of various other migrants and flocking residents such as the Lapwing. Bittern, Water Rail, Peregrine, Hen Harrier, Bearded Tit, Heron, Kingfisher, Buzzard, Hobby and the occasional Osprey have also been recorded at the site. Fox, Hare, Rabbit and Water Vole have all been seen. |
